In a shameless act of linkbait, TIME announces the Best Blogs of 2010. Citing recent storybreaking, TIME editors named Gawker as one of five essential blogs and further heralded the title as 'one of the best-reads on the web.'
"What was once the snarky playground of New York's media elite has graduated (well, partly) from riffing on celebrities and celeb-editors to something that does actual journalism. The mothership of the network that includes Gizmodo, Deadspin and Jezebel, Gawker broke some fascinating stories in the past year, including State Department hazing in Afghanistan and tax quirks from one-time would-be senator Harold Ford. But though they can do the high-brow now too, the endlessly entertaining low-brow snark keeps us coming back for more. If they continue replenishing their ever-rotating staff, Gawker should remain one of the best-reads on the Web."
